Part of Melbourne University, the Victorian College of Arts helps prepare art students for careers as professional, working artists in the contemporary art world. The School of Art achieves this by teaching the practice and theory of visual art in the many different disciplines. The School of Art also encourages the exploration of the connection between the cognitive and formative aspect of visual art.
VCA School of Art offers art courses for undergraduates, graduates, and postgraduates in virtually every discipline of visual arts study. The School of Art enriches the art students' experiences through art study programs, art exhibitions, and art research in the visual arts. The School also likes to maintain a strong relationship with the local arts community, the national art community within Australia, and the international art community.
The undergraduate degree programs include Bachelor of Fine Art and Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours). The Bachelor of Fine Art program is a three year, full time degree art program in which students can study Drawing, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture, and Spatial Practice. Art History is also offered as part of the students' curriculum. The Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) is a four year degree program in which students study at a higher standard and have to complete certain requirements to obtain their art degree.
The School of Art offers the following graduate art programs: Graduate Certificate in Visual Art and Postgraduate Diploma in Visual Art. Higher art degrees include Master of Visual Art, Master of Fine Art, and Doctor of Philosophy.
VCA School of Art offers a wide spectrum of art scholarships, art fellowships, awards, and prizes for undergraduate art students, postgraduate art students, and international art students.
