To be a successful cartoonist, you have to have excellent artistic skills, original ideas, good use of dialogue, and a sense of humour! Since the cartoon business is highly competitive, you also need the drive to succeed. Although there is no formal training to be a cartoonist, it is helpful to take drawing courses. You also need to prepare a strong portfolio for your work to be considered by a newspaper.
