Art Appraiser | Art Appraisal

An Art Appraiser evaluates the value, authenticity and condition of art or antiques.

An art appraisal is often needed for investment art work, it helps with insurance purposes, for the liquidation for an estate or simply to value an artwork prior to it being sold at Art Auction.

Additionally, an art appraisal may take place simply to determine the condition of an artwork. For this reason often someone who works in art appraisal will also work as an Art Restorer. Most art appraisers tend to also specialise in one area of art or antique, such as 19th Century paintings, Porcelain or Antique Furniture.

Art Appraisel is a specialised service, where you can work for art museums, major state art galleries, regional art galleries, art auctions or work independently as an art consultant to investment art dealers. To become an art appraiser, you need many years of practical experience to develop a good knowledge of art auction prices, art dealing, art history and art conservation.

To start your journey you may look for work as a gallery assistant, auction assistant or as an assistant restorer at an art conservation company. For more information see: Art Appraisal Services, Art Appraisal Courses, Art Auctions or Investment Art
